## Fee types

| Fee type | Charged by | What it means |
| -------------------- | ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Farside platform fee | Farside | A fee applied to eligible automated bot trades executed through Farside |
| Exchange trading fee | Trading venue | A trading fee charged by Hyperliquid, dYdX, or another supported venue |

You may see both types of fees in live trading. They are not the same fee.

## Farside platform fees

Farside platform fees apply only to eligible bot-executed trades.

A Farside platform fee may apply when a bot-created order actually executes.

No execution means no Farside platform fee.

## When Farside platform fees apply

| Bot action | Platform fee applies? |
| ------------------------ | --------------------- |
| Bot opens a position     | Yes                   |
| Bot increases a position | Yes                   |
| Bot reduces a position   | Yes                   |
| Bot closes a position    | Yes                   |
| Bot stop loss executes | Yes |
| Bot take profit executes | Yes |

The fee applies only when the trade actually executes.

## When Farside platform fees do not apply

| Action                                              | Platform fee applies? |
| --------------------------------------------------- | --------------------- |
| You manually open an order | No |
| You manually close a position                       | No                    |
| You manually reduce a position                      | No                    |
| You manually trigger an emergency close | No |
| You manually cancel or edit an order | No |
| The system cancels a stale order | No |
| The system pauses or cleans up bot state | No |
| Internal recovery or account sync operations happen | No |

If the trade is created by a bot and actually executes, a Farside platform fee may apply.

If the action is manual or internal, a Farside platform fee does not apply.

## No execution means no Farside platform fee

No Farside platform fee is charged for:

* failed orders
* cancelled orders
* unfilled orders
* requested order size that did not execute
* estimated order size
* wallet balance
* margin balance
* unused leverage

## How the fee is calculated

The Farside platform fee is calculated from the actual executed trade value.

In simple terms:

```txt
Platform fee = executed trade value x fee rate
```

The executed trade value is based on:

```txt
actual fill price x actual filled size
```

Example:

```txt
Your bot executes a trade worth $1,000.
Your current platform fee rate is 0.05%.
Platform fee = $1,000 x 0.05%
Platform fee = $0.50
```

The fee is not based on wallet balance, margin balance, requested order size, or unused leverage.

## Fee tiers

| Rolling 30-day bot trading volume | Platform fee |
| --------------------------------: | -----------: |
|                 Less than $10,000 |        0.05% |
|     $10,000 to less than $100,000 |       0.045% |
|  $100,000 to less than $1,000,000 |        0.04% |
|                $1,000,000 or more |       0.035% |

The higher your eligible rolling 30-day bot trading volume, the lower your Farside platform fee rate may become.

## What counts toward rolling 30-day bot volume?

These executed bot trades count:

* bot opens a position
* bot increases a position
* bot reduces a position
* bot closes a position
* bot stop loss executes
* bot take profit executes

These do not count:

* manual orders
* manual position closes
* manual emergency closes
* cancelled orders
* failed orders
* unfilled orders
* internal system actions

## Paper trading fees

Paper trading uses simulated funds.

Paper trading is designed for testing, learning, and understanding how the platform works before using real funds.

Farside platform fees are primarily relevant for live bot trading.

Paper trading may not reflect every real-world cost exactly the same way live trading does.

Paper trading results may differ from live trading results because live trading can include real venue fees, platform fees, funding costs, slippage, and other real-market effects.

## Live trading fees

Live trading uses real funds on a real trading venue.

When using live trading, results may be affected by:

* Farside platform fees
* exchange trading fees
* funding rates or funding payments
* slippage
* market volatility
* liquidation risk
* network or wallet-related costs, depending on the venue

## Hyperliquid fee authorization

Hyperliquid requires a one-time authorization before Farside platform fees can be applied to eligible bot trades.

This authorization is required before live Hyperliquid bots can start.

This does not allow Farside to withdraw user funds.

It only authorizes the configured platform fee when eligible bot trades are executed through Farside.

If Hyperliquid fee authorization is missing, the setup wizard may block launch until the required approval is completed.

## dYdX platform fees

For dYdX, Farside platform fees are applied automatically to eligible dYdX bot trades.

No separate builder fee authorization is required for dYdX.

Before launching a live dYdX bot, you may still be asked to review the platform fee information as part of setup.

## Exchange trading fees

Exchange trading fees are charged by the trading venue, not by Farside.

Hyperliquid and dYdX may charge their own trading fees when orders execute.

These fees are separate from Farside platform fees.

Exchange fee schedules can change over time. Check the official venue fee schedule for the most current information.

## How fees affect profit and loss

Fees reduce net profit.

A trade that looks profitable before fees may become less profitable after fees.

In some cases, fees can turn a small winning trade into a break-even or losing trade.

Example:

```txt
Your bot closes a trade with $5.00 gross profit.
Total fees are $1.20.
Net profit = $5.00 - $1.20
Net profit = $3.80
```

## Fees and leverage

Leverage does not remove fees.

Fees are based on executed trade value, not only on your margin amount.

Example:

```txt
You use $100 of margin with 10x leverage.
The trade value is $1,000.
If the bot trade executes, the platform fee is based on the executed trade value, not just the $100 margin.
```

## Fees and bot settings

| Setting           | Why it matters                                                   |
| ----------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Position size | Larger trades can create larger fees |
| Trading frequency | More executed trades can create more total fees |
| Stop loss | Stop loss executions are still bot trades and may include fees |
| Take profit | Take profit executions are still bot trades and may include fees |
| Scaling in/out | Each executed adjustment may include fees |
| Leverage | Higher trade value can increase fee impact |

## Builder fees, rewards, and referrals

Some platforms or venues may use terms like builder fees, referral rewards, or fee rewards.

These are not the same as your normal trading costs.

Trading fees are costs related to trades.

Platform fees are Farside fees on eligible bot trades.

Builder or referral rewards are separate reward-related amounts, if available in your account.

Do not confuse trading costs with rewards.

## Why setup may block launch because of fees

The setup wizard may prevent a live bot from launching if fee setup is incomplete.

This is expected.

Common reasons include:

* Hyperliquid fee authorization is missing
* platform fee review is incomplete
* the selected venue requires fee setup before launch
* the platform could not confirm the latest fee setup status

If this happens, follow the action shown in the setup wizard and refresh the setup check afterward.

## Common fee questions

### Do Farside platform fees apply to manual trades?

No. Farside platform fees apply only to eligible bot-executed trades.

### Do Farside platform fees apply if my order does not execute?

No. If the order fails, is cancelled, or does not fill, no Farside platform fee is charged for that order.

### Are fees based on my wallet balance?

No. Fees are based on actual executed trade value, not wallet balance.

### Are fees based on my margin?

No. Fees are not based only on margin. They are based on actual executed trade value.

### Are exchange fees included in Farside platform fees?

No. Exchange trading fees are separate from Farside platform fees.

### Why do I need to approve fees on Hyperliquid?

Hyperliquid requires fee authorization before Farside platform fees can be applied to eligible bot trades. This authorization does not allow Farside to withdraw funds.

### Does dYdX require the same fee authorization as Hyperliquid?

No. dYdX does not require the same separate builder fee authorization. Farside platform fees are applied automatically to eligible dYdX bot trades.

### Can my fee rate change?

Yes. Your Farside platform fee rate can change based on your rolling 30-day eligible bot trading volume.

### Can fees make a profitable trade less profitable?

Yes. Fees reduce net profit. A small profitable trade before fees may become less profitable, break even, or become unprofitable after fees.
