# First-Time Setup Wizard

The setup wizard guides you from wallet connection to a bot that can be reviewed and launched.

Use these user-facing step names when thinking about the flow.

## Choose Paper or Live Trading

Choose whether you want simulated paper trading or live trading.

Paper mode is best for learning and first tests. Live trading uses real funds.

## Connect Trading Venue

If you choose paper mode, you can continue without a live venue connection.

If you choose live trading, connect the venue shown by the product:

* Hyperliquid
* dYdX

## Fund & Approve Account

Complete any required account preparation.

This may include:

* funding a live account
* approving a Hyperliquid trading agent
* creating/linking dYdX identity or credentials
* reviewing platform fee setup

Some live trading venues require fee setup before your bot can launch. See [Fees](/docs/user/fees.md) for details about Farside platform fees, exchange fees, and venue-specific fee setup.

The exact steps depend on the selected venue.

## Create Bot

Choose bot settings:

* name
* strategy
* markets
* execution mode
* paper or live account
* leverage and risk
* grid settings, if using Grid
* notifications, if shown

## Review & Launch

Review the bot and readiness checks.

If checks pass, you can launch. After launch, the bot may be running but still wait for valid market conditions before trading.

## Terminology to remember

* Running means the bot runtime is active.
* Live trading means real-money trading only.
* Paper mode means simulated trading.
* Activation means the bot is enabled and allowed to run.
* Launch/start means the bot begins running after review.
